The words that were written...

In the middle of my old notebook, I rediscovered the words I had written about hundreds of students who I had never met, only seen, in a captured image.

The faces I saw were of the young people who had used studentlinkup in the summer of 2011. As they connected with Fusion we had snapped a Polaroid of them, and months later, our office was covered in the grins of 2011's freshers. The Fusion team and some of our friends had ended up walking round the photograph-covered office not so many months ago, praying for the  first years we had met way back last summer. We cried out to God that each person would have landed well at Uni and thrived in their faith.

Before I knew it, I was kneeling on the floor with my notebook, scribbling down a prayer, thoughts, questions for the studentlinkup class of 2011. I've just found these words again and realise how this same dream and vision also lives on for this year, the freshers of 2012.

So here I will share the scribbled words that were written for the freshers of 2011 and beyond... pray it with me, share it further...

What could this look like?

What could be, if all of these hundreds turned up to be poured out, as offerings to love their unis?

What if the class of 2011 did not quit in the struggle, the change, the new beginnings, but saw this as a catalyst to go further for the Kingdom?

We walk out in our thousands,

We turn up in our millions,

We create a people-group, amassing the nation,

And we declare we will not go missing.

Class of 2011 we call upon you, along with the voices of heaven,

To go all-out for Jesus,

Pour it all-out in love,

Live each term in fearless, radical truth,

Be salt, be light, in all you do.

And prepare Class of 2011 for the Class of 2012.

Already they gather,

Swarming just below the surface of coursework, exams and school leaver's nervousness.

But they will come.

Class of 2011, get your church doors open,

Be the first to meet and greet and welcome your younger siblings.

Be the links, stretch out further to connect,

Christ came all the way to ground-level for us,

So let us stretch and reach and rejoice his kids into their next season.

Class of 2011, what will this look like?
