#EscapeAndPray "Don't impose yourself"

As we look ahead to #EscapeAndPray in June we're going to share some blog posts on the values driving this missional adventure in Europe. If you don't know what #EscapeAndPray is all about then have a quick read here.

Here are some of Jesus' instructions to his 70 disciples on their mission

“Travel light. Comb and toothbrush and no extra luggage. Don’t loiter and make small talk with everyone you meet along the way. When you enter a home, greet the family, ‘Peace.’ If your greeting is received, then it’s a good place to stay. But if it’s not received, take it back and get out. Don’t impose yourself." (Luke 10: 4-6, Message translation)

Jesus' advice is always gold, I particularly like "Don’t impose yourself."

Sounds easy, of course, you wouldn't impose yourself. Or would you?

What if you travelled to a city in Europe to pray and knew no one there and were committed to finding a person who would offer to host you? Not ask for it, but be offered. That means we're trusting that our peace will be welcomed among the people we meet.

Could you stay focused on the mission and remain led by the Spirit when you're hungry and the pressure of uncertainty grows?

#EscapeAndPray is about serving God rather than consuming some kind of 'experience'. The value is the mission, not our experience or comfort. We're going vulnerable yet faith-filled, to rejoice in the tests as well as the victories. We expect both trials and testimonies. God's love is our foundation of trust in this adventure and the fuel to drive us on to pray and share his peace.

The challenge remains high with #EscapeAndPray, but now with some added training, you'll feel more equipped to remain in Christ and on his mission.
