This is a significant milestone in the life of Fusion and wonderful indicator of what God is doing in His church with students.
In the early days of Fusion there were a few churches and specific leaders who backed Fusion through much opposition and difficulty. As we grew it became clear that God was raising Fusion to support the local church to reach students with the gospel.
I joined Fusion 10 years ago when we had about 150 churches. The vast majority of these churches are still connected and very supportive. In the next 4-5 years we had steady growth with churches consistently joining the Fusion Church Connection. Networks and denominations began to build key partnerships with us and encourage all of their churches to sign up to Fusion and be part of the Student Linkup scene.
Then we hit a tipping point.
Churches began to register with us that we had not been in contact with. We were inundated with connections and we we working very hard to keep up with all the wonderful new relationships. During this next season, I was off work for most of a year because I had bowel cancer. During this time, more churches registered with us than at any other time. I wondered if I should stay off work!
On my return to work, we reassessed how we support churches and developed and Churches Team who serve those who are registered with us. This team are on the phone every week calling churches to find out how they are doing with students and if we are supporting them in the ways they would find helpful. You may have received one of these calls!
A couple of years ago we opened the church connection to any church in the world, not just the UK.
This has been a steady growth too. We now have over 400 churches in other nations. Our Student Linkup App is now live in 12 nations and has been translated into 5 languages.
As we look back over the last 20 years of Fusion, we are stunned to see what God has done. We recently heard a Bishop in the Church of England say, "it is now a given that if a church is near a university, they should be looking to reach those students." Well this wasn't always the case. We've come a long way and we still have a long way to go.

What we have seen with churches connecting is just an indicator of what God is doing. We have worked hard but it's gone further than we could have manufactured. We believe we are going to see something incredible happen with students and the local church.
