Fresher’s fair is a crazy few days.
I remember walking around with a bag full of free branded stuff, Dominos in hand and leaving with a membership to the following societies (none of which I went to):
The Chocolate society
The Caving society
The Ultimate Frisbee society
The Flair bartending society (how to flip and spin bottles in the air…)
When I got back to my room at the end of it all, I realised I had a bag full of things I would never use. I picked them up but didn’t actually think about how useful they would be in the long run. Sure, it’s worth trying something new like ultimate frisbee…but it all comes down asking the key questions about what you can use during your time at uni.

What will stay a key part of your time at university? Whether it’s a sports team or a social justice group, there’s always something that might stick with you. However, a church family and your faith will stay with you for university and beyond. So hear God’s call to establish yourself as his follower before you even start, and head to uni with something that won’t go in the bin after the first term: a lifeline for challenges and a joy that won’t give up.
