#fusiondeckthehalls: Advent Challenge #2

THE WILDEST DISPLAY OF LOVE OF ALL TIME

“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”

Luke 2: 6-7

I think as humans, being used to being human, and the only thing that we have ever known is being human, we forget how extraordinary it is that God walked the earth as a man. In a display of powerful, unceasing, and unconditional love, Jesus, fully God, humbled himself and sacrificed his life for ours.

Colossians says that Christ was “the fullness of God in a human body”, that an omnipotent being chose to live an earthly life. My first reaction is “why?”. Jeremy Riddle puts it so well; “What other king leaves his throne?”

The only answer is love. God sending Jesus to save us is the wildest display of love of all time, a display of love that stops you in your tracks, and makes your head snap up from whatever you're doing.

Advent Challenge #2: An out-of-the-box display of love

As children of God, we are called to imitate the way Jesus lived, emanating love to those around us. What could you do for your housemates in the few days before you part ways for Christmas that stops them in their tracks? Something that displays Jesus’ love and is the only explanation when they ask you why?

If you’re stuck for inspiration, here’s a few ideas:

  • Go out of your way to affirm and encourage them
  • Pay for their journey to the train station for their trip home- or something else useful
  • Clean when it’s not your turn on the rota (if you have one!!)
  • Cook a meal or take some treats to a coursemate or housemate facing last minute deadlines
  • If you’re an all Christian house think about how you could bless your neighbours

Let us know how you get on by using #fusiondeckthehalls on social media- we can’t wait to hear how Jesus speaks through you!
