Postcards from my dad: Paul H

In a time when families are broken down, blended up and statistically you are more likely to be missing a solid father figure in your life, we decided to ask some of our friends who we think make great dads, spiritually, biologically, to the church, and to the student generation, to write to you. So just in case your dad never got to speak into your life in the way you'd hoped, here's a postcard from dad to you.

Hey - hope its going well!

People often say that Uni is the "best time of your life", but I know that sometimes they're looking back and forgetting all the hard bits.  So don't think that you have to struggle on in silence - when it's tough, tell someone.  You are loved and there are people who would be happy to help.

I guess that when people say it was the best time of their lives, they probably aren’t thinking about the studies or the exams.  They certainly aren’t thinking about their results!  They may possibly be thinking about the friends that they made - but let me tell you, although you may meet people who'll be in your life forever, sometimes you lose touch with friends when you all move on.

So I suspect that "the best time of your life" is a reflection on how you can get to know yourself during these years - it's all about who YOU are becoming.  Be kind to yourself.  Learn to appreciate what you're good at, maybe even what you aren't.

Make friends who help you see that there's so much in you that others enjoy and value. You're changing and growing through this season - whatever comes next, just know that you're already loved by many people... and above all, by God.

Your friend,

Paul
