Postcards from my dad: Mark C

In a time when families are broken down, blended up and statistically you are more likely to be missing a solid father figure in your life, we decided to ask some of our friends who we think make great dads, spiritually, biologically, to the church, and to the student generation, to write to you. So just in case your dad never got to speak into your life in the way you'd hoped, here's a postcard from dad to you.

Well here’s a strange thing.... Dad actually writing to you! I’m not always good at doing advice but here’s some thoughts as you head into this new way of life away from home.

Remember that film Oz:The Great & Powerful? The 3 Up’s: Show Up-Keep Up-Shut Up. Lots of truth in this..... keep showing up to things and take opportunities that present themselves (if they are healthy for you!) and don’t let fear stop you.

I’ve found that sometimes all you can do is just keep up. Stay involved and connected - make sure we know you are still alive(!) and importantly keep up with Jesus who is always moving and simply calls you to keep up with him. Oh and look out for the friends who you can help you show up and keep up.

Shut Up?! Well remember that you need space and rest - sometimes there is too much going on and you need to find the quiet centre again. Often shutting up leads to your best work.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure you know you are loved..... but it is easy to forget.... so here’s me reminding you again: I love you and am proud of you.

With love,

Dad
