For student workers like Jodie, launching small groups online can be an exciting yet daunting task.

How on earth do you even host an online small group to begin with?! 

Jodie recently signed up to be a part of Online Small Groups Training sessions which helped her to think through how she stays connected with students, despite them being spread out across the country. 

Though the pressure to feel like technology experts overnight may feel very real, Jodie felt reassured during the session to take the pressure off what she ‘should’ be doing now as a student worker. 

“Being in a ‘room’ of people who are just trying to figure it out, sharing tips and wisdom was the most helpful thing.”

A lot of her students initially struggled with the idea of moving small groups online, however, most the students “swept up” their non-Christian friends in an attempt to support them and invite them into community. Jodie has found that students are experts at inviting their friends to church, and online small groups are no different. 

“Online small groups took a bit of getting used to, but it’s still community. This is just want normal is going to look like for a while.”

Online small groups are an excellent tool for not only keeping in touch with students now and inviting non-Christian friends along, but could also be a key way of keeping students connected over the long summer months.
