Over the past few years in Manchester and Salford, there’s been an increasing hunger for dwelling in the presence of God and facilitating spaces like worship nights for students.
There is a strong unity amongst churches and student workers in the city; they function as many parts of ONE BODY, ONE CHURCH, ONE FAMILY helping advance God’s kingdom in the city together. They scatter seeds of hope, they pursue Jesus, they do life together. They honour and champion each other. Just as Apostle Paul commends us in 1 Corinthians 12 to be different parts of one church, all serving the same purpose and functioning as One with our unique individual gifts.
Recently, a collective of student workers in Manchester have felt “Manchester is on the brink of revival”, so they envisioned what would start to happen if they were to gather the next generations of the Church in unity to cry out for a move of God in Greater Manchester and intercede for the lost! As part of that vision, they decided to walk and carry a big wooden cross down from Salford through Manchester city centre. One of the student workers adds, “it was interesting to see people’s reactions as we walked past carrying a 3m high cross! We also stopped and worshipped at points along the way and had some good conversations with people who we ended up seeing on the night.”
The same evening, they hosted a joint worship night at King’s Church Manchester and gathered over 100 students and young adults from various churches to worship, contend and intercede for three hours. King’s Church is placed opposite Manchester Metropolitan campus, and as they prayed, many of them felt prompted to leave the church building, open up the doors and fill the streets with prayer and worship. In fact,“One man who walked past asked what we were doing, and a group of people were able to pray for him.”
We’re so encouraged by the unity God is bringing in the Church, stirring faith in us to seek his kingdom and not stop until we see revival happen!
Spaces like worship nights are sacred, holy and transformative. When we come together to worship the same loving God, things will be shifted in us. We get bolder and gain more confidence both in ourselves and in a Mighty God who is able to redeem, to restore and to recover.
