Week 10 - A waking vision has shown me Jesus

Katie, a 3rd-year student in Lincoln encountered Jesus in her bedroom and has given her life to Him!

Here is Katie's story in her own words.

Age 15 - Longing for God

Sometime in 2019 I was lying on my floor thinking I might believe in God, and I asked God ‘God if you’re real send me a sign’. I didn’t know what on earth I was expecting, but nothing in my room happened, so I went to sleep and forgot about it.

A few months later I was going to sleep and suddenly felt so worried about my dad who was doing a big cycling event, in that moment I started praying to God begging him to keep my Dad safe, and I promised if my Dad was kept safe I would start believing in Him. My dad was kept safe but my promise was not kept until two years later. Strange how God comes and holds you to your promises to Him.

Age 19 - Searching for God

My grandfather, my only biological family member who was a Christian at the time, died on the 10th of February 2023.

On the 24th of March 2023, his funeral was held in a beautiful crematorium with a beautiful chapel. It was a Christian service with readings from the Bible.

The bible reading read out was John 14:1-6 and it was at that moment I knew that my Grandad was with God, for the first time in my life. Whilst the funeral was incredibly sad, I had a very spiritual moment of complete and utter peace, and it felt like something touched me. I really can’t explain it. During that moment I knew that my grandfather was with Jesus Christ in heaven and I knew God protected him all His life. At that moment there was no doubt in my mind that God didn’t exist. His presence really filled the room, and I knew I wanted to get to where my grandfather was, and through hearing the verses, I knew that meant to believe in God.

From that day on, I was constantly looking for God in the world and was in a constant state of gratitude for the world that we live in that I knew had been made by God. I would look for Him in sunsets, naturistic walks, at the Lincoln cathedral, and he would be right there with me, but I would fall back into the earth as I didn’t know how to love God back and I was trying to work out my faith.

I had nobody in my life who knew Jesus so I didn’t tell anybody about how I felt

Age 20 - Encountering God

On the 17th of February 2024, I was praying to Jesus and asking for Him to accept me and to know me because I wanted to know Him. I was sitting cross-legged in my second-year university house and for some reason, I opened my eyes during prayer. On my plain white wall in front of me I saw a big door. I blinked and tried to get that image away until Jesus told me that it was Him. I searched up what a door vision meant, and in that moment I understood it was Jesus welcoming me home.

I read Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened."

After that point, I decided to fully dedicate my life to Jesus Christ. I understood His love and I love Him too. He has saved my life, and since then I have found such an amazing community of people who love Jesus as much as I do.

Present day - Changed by God

God has truly has saved me. He has freed me of a two year addiction to nicotine, helped me from depression, panic disorder and anxiety, and has made me a better person in so many ways.

I am happier, kinder and I feel so incredibly blessed to have received His love and to now be surrounded by brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray everyone can accept His love just like I have because it is the best feeling in the world.

Jesus can save anybody.

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
