God is slowly awakening a generation of students to His name and glory. This is a story of a student called Lilly who is passionate about praying for and seeing her friends to come to know Jesus during her time at university in Southampton.
Last term, Lilly headed out with two of her mates to a local pub [for the sake of this story let's call the two friends: Ellen and Abi]. After arriving and claiming a table in the beer garden, Lilly dashed to the bar to buy the first round of drinks, leaving Ellen and Abi to entertain themselves. Of all the conversations they could have had, Ellen began by sharing with Abi how her father had recently converted from Buddhism to Christianity. Ellen continued to explain how her father had decided to put his faith in Jesus after stumbling upon the gospel accounts. When Ellen's father described the person of Jesus, what he had done and how Jesus had transformed him, it made her think she could also believe in Jesus too! Abi related to Ellen by sharing about her time growing up in the Philippines. During her childhood, Abi merely saw God as a concept in the sky but having listened to Ellen talk about her father’s conversion, she too started to wonder whether there was something more!
When Lilly returned, the conversation had moved on so far that it felt to Lilly as though Ellen and Abi had pretty much talked each other into believing in Jesus. After sharing her faith, Lilly invited the two girls into the pub toilet to pray. It was only a quick one prayer, but at the end, through teary eyes, the two friends exclaimed, “Thank you Jesus”, as they accepted Christ into their lives.
Since then, Ellen and Abi have each ordered a free Bible through Fusion’s Bible Campaign. There are plans this term to read through John’s gospel as a three.
