Week 16 - He gave his life to Jesus there and then

I was sitting in my thinking corner of the house, wondering to myself what would be the best way to reach students of no Christian faith and I immediately answered myself “obviously to get face to face with them on campus.”

This thought challenged me to go out on campus, whilst it was -5°C, to talk to students and specifically chat to them in person about the Spiritual Experiment. To be honest, I was absolutely mortified by the thought of going out on campus on my own so I asked a couple of friends and teammates to pray for me during that time. On my way to campus I kept praying and asking God to increase my courage, boldness and confidence and that he would move through every step I took and every word I spoke.

In just an hour, I talked to 20-30 students - five students actually signed up to read the Bible there and then, and a few took a photo to send it to their friends who might be interested or to sign up later. One international student was waiting for his taxi to arrive so ended up asking lots of questions about Jesus and he gave his life to Jesus there and then. Another student was so open to prayer and after I prayed for her, she felt super encouraged and affirmed. Another student said the reason she was signing up to the experiment was not for the £20 voucher, but she simply wanted to know more.

As I stepped out of my comfort zone, God not only increased my confidence but provided an entire team of students who joined me in reaching students in Cardiff.

Have you ever wondered how you and your church can reach students? Do you have some time this week to go out on campus and use the Spiritual Experiment to talk to students?

We are looking for students with no Christian faith background to join this Spiritual Experiment. We have developed a reading plan that guides students through 5 minutes of scripture everyday throughout February. They’ll be able to join a weekly drop in session with a Fusion team member to ask any questions, and explore what the Bible is all about. To make it even more exciting - we’ll give them a £20 gift voucher for UberEats as a thanks for taking part! Find out more and sign up below.

The deadline for signing up is Friday 24th January!

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
