Week 27 - "Therefore, go and make disciples"

Students across the UK are walking through church doors for the first time and are finding out about who Jesus is through hearing the gospel. This is amazing news for churches, for students and for the kingdom, but it is also a challenge to us to be ready to disciple and support students as they start their journey with Jesus. David* is a great example of this. He first came to church in November, and was invited by a friend from his football club.

David hadn’t had any previous church experience, so this was his first time hearing the good news. As David continued to come to church, and engage with the Christian Union at his University, he started to explore what a personal faith would mean for him. David has had a heart to ask hard questions, figure things out, and has been actively searching for Christ - with previously having no experience at all! David’s spiritual hunger and openness have been so encouraging.

If students are spiritually open, hungry for scripture and ready to explore difficult questions then we as churches, student workers and  fellow students should be equipped to walk alongside and raise up students like David. Jesus tells us to make disciples as a key part of the great commission. He doesn’t tell us to simply make believers or to make church attendees.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20

That is why, as Fusion we believe that making disciples who make disciples is a crucial part of student mission and seeing student revival. Our forthcoming resource, How to Make Disciples that Make Disciples is an incredible way to prepare for discipling students and raising up students like David to invite and disciple others.
