The Polka Dot Tea Towel

Almost exactly 4 years ago to the day I was packing my polka dot tea towels and my cute new crockery into the car. My new duvet was squished in and I had blue tack and hundreds of photos of my besties ready to pin up on my wall. I realised in all of the busyness and all the goodbyes I hadn’t put much thought into who I wanted to be as a student and what university could be as a follower of Jesus.

I signed up to Student Linkup and simply went to the first church that got in touch with me on the assumption they would be organised. Potentially not the best system but it worked for me. I arrived at church and after meeting lots of new people and more nights out in one week than I had ever been on in my life and I felt like I was at home. I had found something familiar and constant.

On my second trip to church the talk was about being on fire for Jesus and how we have a call on our life to live boldly and to go out and make disciples. In that one sermon my approach to university was flipped around. I felt Gods call to walk through university, living working and doing life with so many new and wonderful people and to share Jesus as I went. God started to break my heart for his people, He inspired me to love them and taught me how to live a missional lifestyle as a student.

One year out of University I definitely don’t have my polka dot tea towels but I have experienced so much more of Jesus. I belong to a church that loves me and has equipped me to make Jesus known. It isn’t too late to #Linkupnow, get stuck into a church, it is the best decision you will make as a student. What will your University legacy be?
