St Peter in Eastgate

We're an evangelical Anglican church just down from the Cathedral. Our worship draws from the best of both contemporary and traditional.

A bit more...

We are a church that are committed to the faithful reading and teaching of the Bible finding out what God says to us through his Word and applying it in our lives

We are a diverse congregation, with a wide variety of ages and backgrounds who see ourselves as a gathering of disciples, a church family that learns, shares and ministers together. We bring the issues and concerns of the week to God in worship and we go out to live and work for him in the week that is to come in whatever context we find ourselves - work, study, family life, friends and community.

What do we do for students?

As a student you are more than welcome simply to ‘be’ – to come and worship with us and, if you wish, to join one of our ‘Rooted’ home groups for Bible study and prayer. As a truly ‘all age’ church there are many others to talk to about faith, and to share thoughts, concerns, dreams.

We are very happy if you wish to get more involved. During 22/23 we have had a growing number of students coming to us, some of whom are now involved in our worship, using their musical gifts, reading and leading prayers and being part of our Welcome team.

We know that being at university can be a time of great change. For some it is about owning your faith for yourself, now that you are not be going to church with your family. For others, it might be a chance to investigate new things, and see what God might have for you, His offer of ‘life in all its fulness.’

We are more than happy to help with out with both of these things: be your church home-away-from-home, and help you find out more about Jesus.

Oh yes - and we feel we are pretty good at food – both at church and in the homes of church families.

Our main service is 10.30 am on a Sunday morning. At each service we will explore a Bible passage, usually in a short series – perhaps a book of the Bible, perhaps a theme. For example over this summer we will be exploring various aspects of prayer using some of the Psalms, and then in September move to a ‘season of creation’ exploring how faith in God helps us to understand and care for the world. We look forward to welcoming you to this and the themes the Autumn will bring.

In terms of style we are fairly informal, but still use liturgy. We believe we are ‘wise stewards’ drawing from the best of both the new and old in terms of music and prayers. We have a pattern of - Communion on 1st and 3rd Sundays, a Service of the Word on the 2nd and an All Age (family) service on the 4th. The Bible, and biblically-based liturgy, is at the heart of each.

On a Wednesday at 11 am we use a more traditional form of service, which is always communion.
