The Digital Mission Award

THE STUDENT MISSION AWARDS ARE COMING IN FEBRUARY 2018. WHAT STORIES OF MISSION HAVE YOU GOT TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD? COULD THE DIGITAL MISSION AWARD BE YOURS?

OFCOM research published in 2015 estimates that young people aged between 16 and 24 spend an average of around 27 hours a week on the internet, which works out at nearly 4 hours a day.

Students are increasingly dependent on the Internet for work, play and all general life admin, so this figure can only be growing. Today’s student generation are digital natives, raised Googling and Snapchatting 24/7, and who are often more at home behind a screen than face to face with people.

Reaching these digital natives can be a challenge. We need people who are willing to step up as digital missionaries. As students spend hours and hours of their time online, we need to dream up innovate ways to bring the gospel into people’s online communities. How could you live for Jesus in the online space and catch the attention of an increasingly distracted and distant touchscreen generation?

We want to hear of your best ideas for online mission and inspire you to dream up some more.

  • How could you promote encouragement and kindness amidst the disagreement and hostility of social media?
  • How could you be God’s messenger to a generation constantly refreshing messenger apps?
  • What stellar content could you create?
  • Have you got a killer idea for an app, video or website you could develop to help you engage with your fellow students in their online environments?

Online conversation and interaction have never been higher and, as the church, we have an incredible opportunity to throw content and resources out there that communicate the love of God to people in a highly creative and visual way.

What could you do to reach the digital natives?
