In the summer of 2000, Kate Middleton was preparing to leave home for St Andrew's University. The autumn of 1995 saw Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, packing his bags for University College London. A nerdy looking Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, was gulping at the thought of his first day at Harvard College in the September 2002.
The guys starting university this year may look young and naive - and compared to you, maybe they are! But in the blink of an eye they will be world changers. Most of them won't be the next Queen of England, leader of the biggest band in the world or founder of a social phenomenon. But before you notice it, they will be shaping culture, teaching in schools, starting businesses and becoming leaders in society.
We have to ask ourselves, what are we doing to make sure they are plugged into local churches with the good news of Jesus at their heart?
I believe that the local church is the key to unleashing God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. We have the opportunity to work with students while they are studying in our towns. We have a chance to introduce them to a God with world shaking authority, just as they are assessing what they want their life to be about. You can show a student the love of Jesus today and see them love a lost world for the rest of their life.
To make sure that your church is doing this as well as possible, make sure you register on Student Linkup. We would love to bless and encourage you in what you are doing. Every month, about 20 new churches register with us - will it be your church this month?
