Sharing the #Escapeandpray Story: Budapest

Our team arrived in Budapest, after a super early but very exciting morning, with the mission of blessing the city and connecting with local churches. We had contacted every church and Christian organisation in Budapest that we could find online whilst at the airport. We hadn’t yet had any replies but were so excited to see how God would provide...

Within 30 seconds of praying together, asking God for provision and guidance, we had a message back from a church- RCCG Jesus House, which happened to be just across the street! We then spotted a man about 20m from us singing worship songs with his guitar. God showed us straight away that we were EXACTLY where he wanted us.

We went over and chatted to him, his name was Terry and he was from Nottingham! He told us about how the city desperately needs joy. Joy that only Jesus can bring. Before leaving we sang with him and then had the opportunity to pray through the microphone for locals/tourists/anyone who could hear- what an amazing start.

God continually provided for us in incredible ways – Romeo and Sam from Jesus House bought us McDonald's and booked us somewhere to stay for the night, and others we had contacted got in touch too. We had an amazing time prayer-walking around the city and the two universities, meeting and praying with church leaders, and loved seeing people just as excited as us about Fusion’s vision for Europe.

The next evening, we joined YWAM, giving out sandwiches and praying for the homeless. A highlight was giving a Hungarian bible to a homeless man who wanted to know more about Jesus. That night we stayed with Elise who showed us unbelievable generosity and then joined us to pray for more of the city, including parliament, on our last day. Elise also took us to Golgota Budapest, a massive Hungarian church based in an old theatre. We met the lovely Kati there and were so encouraged by the passion they have for evangelism.

We were so excited to find local Hungarians as well as internationals, passionate about seeing Jesus transform the city. God was so faithful and showed us how wonderful it is to live fully reliant on Him!
