Last week 300 student workers and student leaders gathered in Derby to be part of an uprising in student mission.
We’re on this journey together because we’re seeing an uprising of the spirit of God amongst students, people are taking mission more seriously, students are asking their friends to church and they’re coming, people are becoming more and more open to prayer.
So there we were, 300 people committed to seeing God move on campus, ready for what God was about to do. The stage was set, creatives from YWAM York had given months to develop the artistic expression of the word ‘Uprising’ and 11 foot cardboard sheets hung down with students in war paint drawn on. An oak tree burst from the ground with rubble all around it representing age old missional truths coming up into the university landscape.
After those two days God did show up and he did some amazing things, I wouldn’t be able to write them all down in one blog post but here’s just three things about the kind of uprising we’re being called to:
An Uprising of Prayer
On the Friday night James Aladrian came to speak from prayer storm. He posed a challenging question ‘if Revival came, would we be ready for it?’. Looking back it seems that prayer paves the way for any great move of God, Isaiah 62:6-7 gives us an answer to this and encouraged me to be ceaseless in prayer until an uprising happens.
An Uprising of Power
On the first day Chloe Richards shared about the incredible healings happening in Swansea and the rest of Wales, even in her seminar people were getting healed left right and centre. When we start seeing God move on uni campuses we’ll see people set free, healed and restored. It won’t just be an uprising of words, this is going to be an uprising of power.
An Uprising of People
Some of the most incredible moments during the conference were the times of prayer when student workers from opposite ends of the country were praying for each other. Whatever this move of God looks like, it will be a movement of people who are daily choosing to surrender to Jesus and support others around them.
So whether you were there or not, I truly believe God has something big for university campuses and we can all be a part of it. What a time it is to be alive!
