Be A Gold Digger

There’s a quote I love that says,

‘Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one who finds the gold.’

And it brings the challenge:

Do we want to throw dirt in people’s faces, or dig out the God given gold in each other?’

Ephesians 4:29 says ‘Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.’

Encouragement is defined as giving someone support, confidence, or hope, and in God’s word we are encouraged to encourage and build one another up. The bible is splattered with scriptures that not only encourage us but also instruct us to cheer each other on in life, to inspire, and to hearten one another.

Many of us have experienced or expressed discouragement, but there’s something beautiful in encouragement that can undo years’ worth of damage and push us to who Jesus is calling us to be. Proverbs 16:24 states that,

‘Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.’

Not only can our words be uplifting, it is also deeply healing.

One thing I love about encouragement is that we all have the power to do it and it can be super simple, fun and creative. It can be a compliment that brightens someone’s entire day, affirming post-it notes, edible treats or offering to pray for someone.

Now, let us create atmospheres of encouragement wherever we go, where we bring joy into dark spaces, call out beauty in people, and lead lifestyles of 'digging out the gold' in each other.

So, in a world full of dirt, I dare you to be a gold digger... and to be the best gold digger you can be.
