Don’t worry, I do not have some weird niche dating requirements and I have not accidentally mistaken the Fusion blog page for an online dating site. No, “Calling all fisherman” is a call to everyone, a call to live as Jesus asked. So put on your waders and pick up your nets.
Student life is busy. Working life is busy. Let’s be honest, when was life not busy? Sometimes it’s so easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of life, trying just to survive, that we forget the importance of the calling Jesus had placed on our lives.
In Matthew 4:19 Jesus states, ‘Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’
These two are not separate. Often we’re content to just be, ‘Good Christians.’ We’re content to live our lives, go to church, read our bible and pray. Don’t mistake me, this is great, but it’s not enough. When Jesus said, ‘Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’ He didn’t stop in between. He didn’t make one exclusive of the other. If we are to follow Christ, then we have to be fishermen. We have to be reaching out to our cities and towns and telling people about Jesus.
We have to let Jesus invade our uni life and our workplaces.
We have to not let ourselves confine him to a Sunday.
We have to start conversations that perhaps are uncomfortable and awkward, and we have to put out invitations that may get rejected.
We have to be bold.
It’s ok to be busy, but don’t be too busy for Jesus, don’t be too busy that someone gets missed or you miss what God is doing in the world.
There’s plenty of fish in the sea and you’re a qualified fisherman. So put on your waders and pick up your net.
