Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
2 Corinthians 9:6
Christmas is a time of feasting, spending time with loved ones, and exchanging presents. For many, Christmas is a season marked with love, kindness and extravagant generosity. It’s a time where people become more intentional with their giving and reaching out to those in need through things like community Christmas dinners for the homeless or shoeboxes filled with toys for children in need. It’s a time where people, Christian or not, love to extend the generosity of God to anyone and everyone.
And for Christians around the world, Christmas is a reminder of the fathers generosity to us as he gave his only son, Jesus Christ to dwell amongst us, to die for us and to defeat death. Jesus is radically generous. He gave his time, his wisdom. His life. And He wasn’t stingy with it. Because of Jesus’ generosity, there is a legacy of saved lives, and healed souls.
2 Corinthians 9:6 encourages this value of generosity through this wonderful imagery of a farmer sowing seeds to harvest a crop and reminds us that the amount of seed sown impacts the amount of fruit it will produce.
God invites us to sow seeds of his kingdom and to not be stingy with it. He invites us to sow these seeds generously through our time, skills, prayers, money and God given wisdom. And it’s these seeds that will harvest a crop of salvation, healing, and breakthrough in the lives of people we sow these seeds into. And remember... the more sown, the bigger the crop so this advent, I encourage you to be a super seed spreader.

I invite you to grab a paper and a pen and write down all the seeds God has given you and the different ways you will sow them this season.
It could be seeds of kindness sown through some delicious baked goods for your neighbours that could harvest a crop of joy on your street. Or it could be seeds of God’s power sown through prayers and intercessions over your friends that could harvest a crop of healing and salvation in their lives.
Whatever it is, sow generously and sow often.
