As Fusion, we’re often on the road meeting local churches and hearing stories of how God is moving amongst the student generation. Caleb, is a third year student, studying at ACM in Guildford…
During the first semester, Caleb was attending a music class and had sat down next to a coursemate, Oscar, whom he shared the same jam lectures with. During their brief exchange, Caleb noticed Oscar to be wearing a jumper with the words ‘MATTHEW 12’ printed across it. Caleb, a Christian, was both stunned and curious. He proceeded to ask Oscar what his jumper meant. Oscar replied, saying he didn’t know huge amounts but that he’d recently met God in a dream. This spiritual encounter provoked so many questions and such hunger for truth! So much so that Oscar sourced himself a Bible and began to read Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus. After a tough introduction to Christianity that left him to endearingly abstain from eating pork, Oscar found more comfort in the words of the New Testament. Chapter after chapter, he was drawn to the person of Jesus, who at the time, was performing miracles in the face of the injustice across the region of Galilee and in light of the unlawfulness of the Pharisees. Jesus, in Matthew 12, is revealed as the Son of David, meaning, Messiah.
Utterly convinced Christ was real, Oscar informed Caleb he had customised bible verses on items of clothing through an online website so he could feel empowered walking around campus. As Caleb listened, the Holy Spirit prompted him to invite Oscar along to an Alpha Course being held at his local church. During those evenings, Oscar was delighted to deep dive further into scripture and explore more of the questions he’d accumulated in recent months. Although Oscar is still exploring faith, he is relieved to have returned to a diet of pork after reading the book of Acts!
