Mission Styles: Let Me Experience

We all learn in different ways, and this means we all learn about faith differently too. This ultimately shapes how we share Jesus with others. Mission Styles is a tool designed to help you recognise how you are naturally wired to share Jesus, but it also equips you to share your faith with your friends. It allows you to speak their “language” by deepening your understanding of how they respond to the Gospel.

What is ‘Let Me Experience’?

Let Me Experience people want to have as much fun as possible. Instinctive, dynamic and experimental, they love to be fully involved and throw themselves into any given situation. They are excited by the opportunity to try something new, and if anyone is going to suffer from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), it’s a Let Me Experience person. They follow their gut and are less risk averse; they will action ideas quickly even if they have never done something before. Even if they may make a mistake it won’t stop them from giving something a go. They ultimately learn by doing. They need to know that following Jesus is life-changing and an ongoing adventure. Knowing that they can do what Jesus did will help them understand he is alive. They discover more about God by being given the chance to get stuck in, whether that is trying church, praying, worshipping, or whatever it may be. Let Me Experience people thrive when they are invited to be a part of something and are given new things to engage in or lead.

‘Let Me Experience’ in the Bible

When the disciples were caught up in the middle of a storm, Jesus appears to them standing on the water. He invites Peter to step out of the boat and join him, which he does and ends up walking on water, experiencing God’s power in an incredible way! Peter has never seen anyone do this before and has no reason to believe he can do it himself, other than the fact he places his faith in Jesus’ power and has the desire to join in with what he is invited to do.

Jesus sends out the seventy-two in pairs to go before him into all the towns. He tells them to preach the message that the Kingdom of God is near, to heal the sick, and bless those they encounter. They return with joy, exclaiming “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!” Jesus has invited his followers to participate in the fullness of the Kingdom by going out in the power of his name, and their understanding of who he is is significantly deepened by the experiences they get to have.

‘Let Me Experience’ in a Nutshell

They want to know Jesus is alive and active and that following him is an adventure.

Faith is primarily exercised experientially.

They most relate to Jesus when he invites people to participate in the Kingdom.

Your ‘Let Me Experience’ Friend

*Luke is determined to live life to the full. He is always up for stopping what he is doing if it means having fun. He is constantly giving things a go and is full of ideas – he is always telling you about a new business idea he has had. This is why Luke is genuinely gutted when he can’t join you or other friends to do something. He has loads of random skills and hobbies. He loves listening to bands nobody else has heard of. He signed up for every other society at the Freshers Fair because he wanted to experience as much as he could, even though he didn’t stick with most of them in the long term. When you moved into your house at the start of second year, Luke bought a bunch of furniture he thought he might need - or that looked cool - but struggled to assemble most of it (some has remained in boxes). On the Uni skip trip, despite having never skied before, he was attempting a black run on the second day. He also committed last-minute to a holiday with the Uni house, though he doesn’t seem that concerned he’s now gone into his overdraft. As a spontaneous person, Luke is, for better or worse, usually the instigator of things. At a house party, he is probably doing a party trick or at the centre of the action, and he bounces between different conversations as he doesn’t want to miss out on whatever is happening. He always has the best story following a night out – he once ended up in a totally different city! He is really up for coming along to church, and appears interested, even excited, when you tell him about a prophetic word you received. He’s asked you questions such as ‘Have you ever seen a miracle before?’ and ‘What happens when you pray?’
