This week's Guest Blog is from Rachel Bevan, who works for Church For Students in Sheffield. Rachel emailed us to let us know what they've felt prompted to do, and wanted to know whether others from across the nation have been doing the same?
On the 30th November 2011 we grasped hold of a vision: a vision to see revival spread across our city, across our nation and across this world. The vision sprung up from a session on revival we did within our internship year at our church. We were challenged that all revivals in history stem from a group gathering and praying for it. They pray for revival in their nation, anywhere and through anyone but they simply want revival.
So naturally we set up a Facebook group inviting those on our internship year and many others to gather at 7:30 on Tuesday mornings and pray. We are gathering and just praying. It isn’t a massively organized meeting, we pray as we feel, worship when we want to and generally let the Spirit do His work.
In John 16:8-14 it says of the Holy Spirit:
"When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned. I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you."
After we read this we thought that maybe we should make space for the Holy Spirit to do His job in this nation.
I would challenge you to do what we did in our internship session: imagine what your city would look like if revival swept through- people praying on the streets, nightclubs being places of joy and worship, crime disappearing…. How awesome would it be if that was a reality?! Who knows what could happen if there were thousands of us meeting across this nation praying for the impossible?
The last couple of years we have heard a lot of people say they feel like God is preparing us for something big coming, that there is a movement of the spirit on its way.
