The Lost Student

The text below is a poem written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is penned by Bilbo Baggins and quoted by Gandalf.

It is also my prayer for all those who once had faith in Jesus Christ, but have drifted away from him and his church. There are many students in our universities who once knew a closeness to God that has gone. Like a faded memory of an old relationship. Maybe this is true for you.

But take heart, all is not lost. God understands our story and always offers reconciliation. He loves us like a good Father loves his children.

(99 words)

All that is gold does not glitter,

Not all those who wander are lost;

The old that is strong does not wither,

Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,

A light from the shadows shall spring;

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

The crownless again shall be king.
