God doesn't have a fixed plan

Students often tell me they are asking God to tell them what they should do with their life.

But it’s not scriptural. Even Jeremiah’s hugely quoted verse is vague rather than specific.

The truth is, God has a dream for our lives. But we would prefer a map.

If a student asked their father, “Dad, what job do you want me to do and where?” what should the father say? A detailed plan? I hope not. I hope he would say, “what do you want to do, what makes you come alive?”

I think it’s more like this with God.
