Nearly three years ago I was wandering aimlessly around the different stands at a summer festival, hot chocolate mountain in hand, when a voice from a bright orange stand beckoned me over… ‘are you starting uni this year?’.
Studying at York St John University has been by far the best and most challenging three years of my life so far. I’ve loved being a part of the student community at my church, helping to lead the Cheerleading squad, getting involved with the Student Union events and fitting a bit of studying in as well. But now as I have finished uni, it is a time for a change. I wanted to encourage students to enjoy university as much as I did. Students are a passion of mine. I’ve loved being one, working with them and learning from them, so I’ve recently started a new role at Fusion, focussing on the development of Student Linkup.
73% of Christian students don’t connect to a church when they get to university. That’s a staggering amount. With Student Linkup, over 90% do connect to a church. The amazing realisation is that when Christian students are supported and encouraged by their local church to ‘go for it’ in their faith they are empowered and commissioned to do extraordinary things. They learn to know what it means to be a light in the darkness. Student Linkup helped me find a church when I first started uni so I’m thrilled to be in this position, helping thousands of students connect to churches all over the UK. That’s how my first adventure at university started!
With the new Student Linkup app released and brand new resources to help students with their faith at university, this is an exciting time for Student Linkup. I’m looking forward to meeting you, and hearing your Student Linkup stories!
