Would you like to challenge the systems that keep people in poverty? Would you like to see a world where Jesus’ commandment to ‘love your neighbour as yourself’ is essential to our global community, rather than optional?
If the answer to those questions is yes (or even maybe), then I’d like to talk to you about Sourced, the new campaign launched by the Christian Aid Collective. Sourced is a campaign for students and gives them the opportunity to try and ensure that their university is procuring services from companies that pay their fair share of tax.
It’s not the sexiest of subjects, but every year, over $160 billion dollars is lost to developing countries through tax dodging by multinational corporations. This is more than the global aid budget, and if paid fairly, would enable developing countries to provide essential services such as education and healthcare.
I’m Sarah Carter, the Christian Aid Collective Intern for London. This year I’m working with students and young people in London to share how you can be involved in a movement of people who are inspired by faith and passionate about ending poverty.
If you’d like to know more about this campaign, or know someone who would, you can get in touch at scarter@christian-aid.org, or call me on 020 7523 2185.
