Pushing the boat out

Hi, I’m Grace, and I’m a mermaid.

… Okay, I’m clearly not, but recently a member of my church had a picture of me as a mermaid, able to communicate with people of the land and the sea. As a Modern Languages graduate, this picture was significant, because it was God showing me the wealth of people that I had the potential to communicate with. This, coupled with my heart for seeing students getting plugged into church, is how I’ve found myself working alongside the Fusion International team.

I love Fusion. I love the passion behind everything they do, I love their sensitivity to where God is moving, and I love that they will not rest until all students are given the opportunity to get linked up.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another. - Hebrews 10 v24-25

We were not made to walk out our faith alone. There’s a reason we’re all part of one body, and gather together for worship. If we lack encouragement, challenge and support whilst we journey with Christ, the chances of falling away are huge. We cannot afford to fall away; an eternity with our God in heaven is at stake.

We can’t avoid the fact that university tends to be the ‘make or break’ in a young person’s walk with Jesus. With today’s pressures to conform, it’s hardly surprising that less than 1% of students would call themselves a practicing Christian, and in some countries the figure drops even lower.

This is why it’s time to push the boat out. Fusion are no longer staying within the UK, but are branching out to see students everywhere get connected with other Christians who are ready to disciple them. And this is where you come in.

I wonder if you will join us on our adventure and climb into the boat too, by supporting us in prayer? Fusion currently has 150 international churches connected to Student Linkup, with nearly 50 of those in France, and relationships being built up within other countries across Europe. Imagine if, no matter which University City a student went to, there was an opportunity for them to be connected to a local church with Student Linkup. That’s the dream.

Prayer Points:

  • The local churches we come into contact with: That they will see the importance of investing in students, that they are on board with Student Linkup, and that we maintain healthy relationships with them
  • Christian students: That they find themselves welcomed into local churches, and that they have the opportunity to be discipled
  • The Fusion Team: That we work with wisdom and discernment on this adventure, that we stay aware of cultural differences, and that we keep our eyes open to where God is moving.

For students globally, life to the full with Jesus is at stake. Please join me in praying as we continue on this adventure.
