'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.' Genesis 1 v 1
The first verse in The Bible is probably one of the most well known. It has been used to argue for and against different points of view regarding creation. Sometimes we can read the first few chapters of Genesis with this kind of mindset, and miss what the passage actually teaches us about God and his character.
God according to the opening portion of Genesis takes what has no shape or form and he gives it shape.
God can take what is empty and fill it with creativity and life.
Sometimes our student ministry can look or feel like it has no shape.
Sometimes we can feel like our ministry is empty and lacks creativity.
'And God said,“Let there be light,” and there was light.' Genesis 1 v 3
With one word God spoke the world into motion. God's voice gives shape, God's voice fills emptiness with creativity.
I meet student workers all the time as part of my job. They are amazing and are doing such good work among this generation of students. But sometimes I find the student workers I meet can be tired, worn out and stressed out. Often student workers can be so busy.
So busy that they can't find time to listen to the voice of God and let him speak form and creativity into your student work.
If you feel like your student work is empty and without void don't be discouraged. Feel excited, and listen to the voice of God he may be about to speak and give shape and creativity to your student work.
