As well as working for Fusion, I’m also a student worker in a local church. Often as leaders we can think that we need to do everything ourselves and that it all relies on us.
I recently had to face up to the fact that God doesn't need us but he wants us.
I found this out in a new way during the worship on the Saturday night of our student weekend away a couple of weeks ago which I was leading alongside the rest of our student team.
After going round and praying for different students I began to just worship. Then one of our students put his hand on my shoulder and began to pray. As he did I began to bow down, God was bringing me to my knees and I started to acknowledge (once again!) that He's the King and He's on control.
It's not just down to me to save people or make sure they encounter God. God can take care of that, yet the beauty is that he chooses to use us regardless.
The God of the Universe decides to partner with broken, hurting humanity. Not because he has to but because he wants to, he wants to build a relationship with us.
So know that it’s not all up to you to build the best student ministry or church and that ultimately God is in control, and know that God loves us so much that he chooses to use us even if it seems he’d do a much better job himself.
