We have been at 21 Freshers fairs across the UK inviting all students to #Trychurch.
We've heard so many encouraging stories. Here's Ed's:
Ed's Story
"Recently I helped run a stall at Chester University’s Fresher’s Fair with Fusion and #TryChurch. We talked to a lot of students and encouraged them to try church. This opened up conversations and questions and was a great opportunity to encourage students, many of whom are away from home for the first time, to connect with the church family in our city. It was also a great opportunity to help connect students who were already looking for a church. We had a massive engagement via the app in the church I am part of and I know that is the case for many of the churches in Chester.
One particular student I had the privilege of meeting had arrived just a few days earlier from the USA. We got talking and he told me that whilst he had gone to church with his family as a child, he had not attended for a while. He was really interested in re-engaging with his faith and finding a church. If we hadn’t been there, he may not have even thought about finding a church whilst at university. Another student was intrigued by the fact that some churches were putting on free lunches after church, he said “If churches are giving us a free lunch then that sounds like something I want to go to”.
There is a myth that says that people don't want to go to church anymore
Whilst that may have some truth, if we as the church show that we are not just an organisation but the family God intended us to be, then I am convinced that students and others will be desperate to #TryChurch and in doing so discover the God that loves them and has a plan for their life."
