Discover a bigger  jesus 

On campus there are great opportunities to be part of god’s multicultural mission – and to discover more of jesus, the global christ …your university campus could be the place to discover a bigger and more surprising jesus.

 

 

 

‘Multicultural Britain’ is usually in the news because of problems or tensions - but all the richness our mix of cultures brings is celebrated on campuses. It brings amazing opportunities for learning and growing in Christ.

You may belong to a minority ethnic group, or you may encounter students and build friendships with those who are. There are sure to be hundreds of international students too, and we will rub shoulders with speakers of other languages, and followers of other faiths, traditions and customs.

This is a great opportunity for us to show hospitality, to listen and to learn from those who are not like us, to discover Jesus amidst other cultures, and to share our understanding and experience of Jesus.

And we can be inspired by Jesus himself who is the supreme model of someone who crosses the cultural divide: coming to earth in human form, living within a particular culture and challenging us to step out of our ‘comfort zones’ and engage with others, including those who aren’t ‘like us’.

We at CMS are deeply committed to this kind of mission – it’s local and rooted in a place, but it’s also connected to a global family. We’re part of a huge worldwide network that presents amazing opportunities for insights, learning and, ultimately, the discovery of a ‘bigger Jesus’.

CMS wants to encourage and equip you to engage and learn from those of other cultures. Looking at our lives and our faith from a bigger perspective, and listening to those who are not like us, can have a profound impact.

We'd like to offer you the opportunity to join a team experience that will immerse you in another culture, and allow you to discover a 'bigger Jesus' as you reflect on your own faith and how you join in God’s mission to the world.

Our Urban Encounter experiences are city-based weekends in the UK and mainland Europe, discovering how Christians are engaging in mission in a particular urban context. Next year visits are planned to multi-cultural Birmingham and Southall, and to Amsterdam and Paris. Or you could venture further afield and consider joining an Encounter team in the summer break – an opportunity to share in the lives, hopes and struggles of people in Kenya, Romania, Tajikistan and other places.
