“When you’re a student everyone is on drugs around you and it’s easy to sort of capitalise off that market.”- Harry
Does this sound familiar to you?
Harry is a campus drug dealer. In the BBC Series, Students On The Edge, Harry tells the story of how easy it is to get into drugs and dealing when you are a student, as you’re surrounded by people on drugs.
“1.1 million people age 16-24 took drugs illegally last year. and the number of young people convicted for the sale of class A drugs rose by 50% between 2013 -2016.”
Harry shares stories of students who have tried committing suicide, jumping out of the window or overdosing on drugs.
Although these stories are heartbreakingly real, we’ve also seen students who’ve heard the audible voice of God telling them “STOP” in those exact moments when they wanted to take their life; as a result, they found hope and found healing. You see? God meets you exactly where you are at. Jesus is the hope, love, and freedom we all look for in everything we do.
There is always a way. Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life." In John 10:9 Jesus says, “I am the gate, whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.” Jesus is freedom.
In another passage, in Revelation 3:20, he says: “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
Many of us have been there. Before I became a Christian and accepted Jesus into my life, I was hopeless and couldn’t find hope in anything. I tried everything to seek peace, hope, and freedom but nothing helped me until I prayed for the first time and asked God to come into my life and change my life. And he did!!
If that’s you, if any of the stories you have just read resonate with you, it’s not too late. In fact, It’s never too late to invite Jesus into your life and accept him as your Saviour. In John 3:16-17, we read that “for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son [Jesus], that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” Is today the day for you to decide to live a different hope-filled and love-filled life?
If so, pray this simple prayer with me and trust that you have received it:
"Jesus, if you are real and all these things I hear about you are true, I want to invite you to come and show me who you are and change me and my life. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!"
