Games for Online Small Groups

Just because we’ve had to move our small groups online and they might look a bit like a work meeting, doesn’t mean we have to make our small group meetings dry and boring. Fun is very important and I think mission critical. It breaks down barriers, helps people express themselves and draws people closer to one another. Heres a list of a few games you can play online with your small group.

Pictionary

On zoom there’s a whiteboard that everyone on the call can draw on. Get the host to text out different things for people to draw. If you don’t use zoom the website https://www.drawize.com/ is a free online Pictionary game you can play with your community.

Wiki Races

Choose a person on wikipedia and then an object you have to get to through using hyperlinks. For example…. John Travolta to Cheese. (John Travolta… Grease… American Diner… Food.. Dairy Product… Cheese) First person to get there wins!

Count to 20

As a community count to 20, if anyone interrupts you have to start again. This is a great icebreaker and will get people used to it being okay if people accidentally interrupt during small group. Everyone needs to be unmuted and put yourselves in grid mode.

Go and find…

The host chooses and object, says “Go and find a toothbrush” everyone on the call has to rush off and grab the nearest toothbrush, first one back with it wins! You could do this with loads of objects, how our of the box can you get? (Something related to birds, a smelly thing, something that glows in the dark)

20 Questions

Guess which famous figure I’m thinking of in 20 yes or no questions.

Lipsync battle

The host plays a song and mutes everybody, a few people are selected as lipsync performers and the rest of the community votes on the winner

Scattergories

The host chooses a category and the group takes it in turns to say a word/object in the category. People are eliminated for hesitation, repetition or words not within the category. The last person standing gets a point.
