12th December | What if it's right to look back?

But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!)

Ephesians 2:4-5 NLT

Today is the 12th day of advent. Today is all about grace; God’s grace, mercy, and love.

It is a time to hold on to the promise that God’s radical love and grace has saved you once and for all. It is done! As he raised Christ from the dead, I believe he wants to lift you up today, as well, by giving you a fresh vision and fresh hope to look forward to what’s ahead of you.

Today let’s take a moment to remember where you’ve seen his grace come through this year. My good friend Hannah Miller once wrote, “People tell us not to look back. That we should only be looking ahead of us. But what if sometimes it's right to look back? What if we need to look back, be thankful, and make our peace, in order to walk forward into all that is ahead of us?”

Not sure about you but I always find it hard to reflect back and remember things because I’m very future-focused and I don’t often look back to reflect on the past events. But what Hannah said helped me a lot to do that more often. Can you remember the moments where you were going through something and asked God, “where are you in this, Lord? God, what are you doing? What are you saying? Why is this happening?”

So in order to walk forward into all God has in store for you, I want you to look back today and reflect on what you learnt about God’s grace in 2020. You may still not know the answer to your questions, and that’s ok. It’s still well worth looking back and processing what you experienced.
