Everyday Faith

As a student, my to-do list is never empty; there is always something to get done. Whether it’s uni, work, laundry, a food shop, seeing friends, cooking, exercising, relaxing, showering, cleaning my room, calling home; there is always something to do. So when it comes to spending time with Jesus, it is so easy to think about it as something on our to-do list.

We set resolutions to read our bibles more, to pray more, to go to church more and these are great goals in and of themselves...but the truth is, when they are just things to tick off the list we lose the purpose of them. So we know we need to prioritise God, but how can we when we have 1272819 other things to do? Stop, collaborate and listen!

Instead of doing everything and then spending time with Jesus when we have time, we invite Him into everything we do. Collaborate with Jesus, do life with Him not just in the knowledge that He exists. God is the same God while you wash the dishes, as he is on a Sunday at church. He is the same Jesus as you study as He is when you pray. God longs to join in with you in your day, so why not invite him to?

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me." - Revelation 3:20

Imagine if the mundanity of everyday life was completely saturated with Jesus? Imagine if you felt God’s presence whilst making pesto pasta. Imagine if you experienced the Spirit’s peace in the middle of lectures. Imagine if you heard Jesus whisper words and give you pictures whilst you were doing laundry. Imagine if you were interceding for the world in the middle of Lidl. Imagine if the 100 mph hurry of life slowed to a gentle walk with the One who made, knows and loves you.

Imagine if a life in black and white became drenched with colour.

It can and it will, when you stop, collaborate with Jesus and listen to him!

How do we collab with God? Ask the Holy Spirit to make you aware of His presence. Before you start a task, acknowledge that Jesus in the room and ask Him to join in with whatever you're doing and to speak to you. Every time you brush your teeth, pray the Lord’s prayer, or when you tie your shoes pray for a friend. Think about how God is involved in your everyday tasks and ask Him to show up! The world around will light up, and your relationship with Jesus with flourish.

When you start to collab with Jesus, you will realise just how much he wants to speak to you and spend time with you and you will want to spend more time with Him and His Word in prayer and practice; you will want him to be your number one priority, all the time. When you collaborate with God, you find life and life in all its fullness!
