We have seen the drive for mission and evangelism amongst students increase rapidly since February 2024…and it all began at Wide Awake.
Last year Wide Awake nights were held at Churches across the country with a vision ‘to see students catalysed for mission on their campuses’. Amazing stories began to arise from these worship and prayer nights as students' hearts were stirred to share their faith with those around them. In one city students with no faith walked in and encountered Jesus, in another students got their phones out and began inviting their friends to come along to Church that Sunday - God was and is, on the move.
In Lincoln, we have been most encouraged by the long-term impact that Wide Awake has had on our students, our Churches, and our campus.
This time last year, aside from the amazing things the CU are doing, there was no other missional presence on campus and yet in the last year, new missional initiatives have been birthed and grown.
A group of 15 students now meet weekly on campus to pray, and then use the Fusion survey to chat with other students about Jesus. They’ve prayed for people, given out free Bibles and shared the gospel with as many students as they could. Between September and December alone, they had over 300 conversations with students about Jesus and are still just as on fire for mission today.
Another young adult has started regular evangelism training for anyone wanting to grow their confidence and be equipped to share the gospel. They have some weeks where they learn how to share their faith and other weeks where they go out and put what they have learnt into practice. They have been prayer walking, sharing the gospel with strangers, and even worshipping on Lincoln High Street.

After a Wide Awake night this year, a group of students from different churches in Lincoln were so excited to share their faith that they went straight to the University grounds to worship God. They stood in the very centre of campus with a guitar and sang praises to God at the top of their lungs with no shame or fear whatsoever.
Wide Awake last year catalysed something in the students in Lincoln and God is on the move!

God is awakening a generation and we have a part to play in inviting them to find hope in Jesus and a home in the local Church.
