The ripple effect of evangelism has seemed to quicken in 2025. Confidence in Christian students has increased from those who wouldn’t typically call themselves ‘evangelist’ but are picking up their responsibility within the great commission.
One such story is of Josh*, a student in Loughborough who met Jesus a year ago. He was on a walk on campus and took a break at the peak of a hill when a Christian student started chatting to him about the view and how awesome God is to create such a beautiful scene. The Christian student then invited him along to church where Josh encountered Jesus. A big part of his journey was being part of a fresher small group where he could ask questions and then took the decision to get baptised! Josh kept his faith relatively to himself at first….
But this academic year he has seen others bring their friends to church and so has been challenged and encouraged to think ‘why not my friends too?’ He invited his basketball team to church and that Sunday five of them came along and have been consistently coming since. The joy on his face that his friends would come and taste and see what he has found will forever mark me.
What is truly remarkable is, that same Sunday others also decided it was time to bring their mates, and so 25% of the room were guests! Students are starting to pick up their responsibility to reach the lost and it is truly amazing to see! Are we ready as the church to welcome in a generation who are seeking?
