Week 42 - Mission in the Welsh Valleys

Wild Hope: July Mission in the Welsh Valleys

At the start of July, Wild Hope - a partnership between HOPE Together, YWAM, Fusion, and Agape UK - brought together 25 passionate young adults for ten days of mission in the Welsh valleys.

The journey was deeply rooted in the legacy of revival, beginning with a visit to Evan Roberts’ church - the very birthplace of the 1904 Welsh Revival. We sang "Here is Love Vast as the Ocean" countless times, and each time it felt like a fresh declaration of God's heart. Throughout the trip, hundreds of gospel conversations unfolded, and many lives were touched. Here are just a few of the highlights.

Students Embracing Their Missional Calling

It was powerful to see students stepping out boldly in street evangelism. One unforgettable moment was watching Duncan gently lead two teenage boys to Jesus - they prayed together right there on the street.

Another highlight came from Jess, who asked a man, “Where do you find your hope?”
He replied, “In documentaries.”
She responded, “So, you must enjoy stories?
When he nodded, she said, “Would you like to hear my story - and how Jesus healed me?”

Simple, beautiful, Spirit-led conversations like these happened again and again.

“Gen Z Will Be Suicide Free”

As we moved through the valleys, we heard heartbreaking stories of hopelessness, particularly the high rate of suicide in the region. One local bridge was known for repeated incidents. The team gathered there to worship and pray for transformation - that it would become a place of hope, not despair. Jonny stood boldly in a shirt that read “Gen Z Will Be Suicide Free”, a prophetic declaration we are praying into deeply.

Healing on the Streets

We saw boldness as students offered prayer for healing right in the streets. One man encountered the Holy Spirit so powerfully that he asked, “Where should I go once I’m healed by Jesus?” It was a moment of both awe and joy, as we watched faith rise in real-time.

“Jump in the River and Go Where It Takes You”

That was the simple call - to step in and trust where God would lead. And these young adults did exactly that.

We’re filled with expectation for the ongoing stories that will emerge as these students return home - stepping into their calling as campus missionaries.

Every week of the academic year, we are sharing a story of student mission. If you have a story to share, let us know.
