Jacob, a Student Pastor in Guildford, was asked to share some encouragements of ministering to students over the last 12 months at the University of Surrey. Some of the stories Jacob shares in this blog adds to the increasing excitement we're seeing God do amongst students and particularly younger men as documented in the Quiet Revival Report. Here is Jacob's story:
‘We’ve had a really exciting year amongst out Students & Young Adults at Emmanuel. In particular, we’ve seen several young men coming in who are curious to know more about Jesus, who, without our making contact or reaching out, have felt drawn to come to church. Many have then stayed and are still attending church. Since January, we’ve seen three of these young men give their lives to Jesus!
It’s been very humbling for us, because it hasn’t been through our schemes or strategies or events, but through the Holy Spirit’s work in people’s lives, drawing them to himself. In His kindness, we get to play a small role in welcoming people and helping them to step into relationship with Him. Thank you Lord!
Below, is a reflection from one of our students, also called Jacob, of his experience of coming to Christ:
‘Home. Once I found the light, home was directly in front of me. The church is my home. However I had lost my keys, but that’s okay, I found my locksmith. God. Working in unison with God and my soul to find the light and the keys to my home saved me. Throughout all addiction, pain, depression and suffering, God highlighted how easy it was for me to let go and place my trust in him. Students at Emmanuel church helped guide me to the Lord and nourished my faith, and for that I am thankful.'
As we embark on another freshers season, Fusion's prayer remains the same, that every student would have the opportunity to find hope in Jesus and a home in the local church. What is your Church doing to prepare for the imminent arrival of students this September? Abundant opportunity is coming. Are you ready to welcome?
