Living Mission

This book is an invitation.

An invitation to look again at a message that makes us alive as human beings and how we can spread it in a way that's natural, instinctive and fulfilling. Long before this digital age dawned, humanity had been hardwired for relationship with God. Programmed into our DNA is a living mission that, once activated changes how we view God, ourselves and the world around us.

When Jesus left the comfort of heaven and moved into a distinctly human neighbourhood, it wasn’t an accident. There was no trapdoor to fall through or cosmic banana skin for Jesus to slip on that propelled him into human form. Out of committed community came a deliberate and intentional plan to reach out to humanity in a new way. Together the founders of sacrificial love paid the price so that we could be friends with God. The Trinity is the template for mission and community and we are made to live in their image.

Small groups of people, committed to one another and centred on Jesus transform the world.

This is living mission: small communities connected to, and part of, local churches moving into student neighbourhoods to show the student world what God is like. Fusion believes that these intentional communities can and must transform the student world. Indeed it has happened many times before in student mission history.

Down the years such communities have been called all sorts of things from holy clubs to cell groups to ‘the order of a grain of mustard seed’. What is important is not the name or the format but the values they embody and express. For them to be intentional in reaching students they don’t have to be made up solely of students, there just has to be a bias towards serving and loving this particular people group. Living missional community is the consequence of these values and this focus.

Fusion is committed to encouraging a new wave of cell groups, clusters and churches to be planted. We also want to inspire and breathe new life into existing small groups so the Church can reach the student world. This book is designed to do that and to cast a vision for what is possible, tell stories of what is happening and encourage a movement for the glory of God.
