“No act of Kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” Aesop.
Kindness. Something very simple, but surprisingly challenging.
It’s hard to be kind to someone you don’t like. Sometimes it’s hard to be kind to someone you do like!
Our emotions can easily affect how kind we feel.
Our situations can prove kindness challenging too.
Squeezing back into family living after having your own house in uni can be hard.
Going back to your part time job for the summer can be tricky.
Meeting up with old school friends can surprisingly be quite different to how it used to be.
It is in these moments when we can challenge ourselves to be kind.
Jesus asks us ‘If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?’(Matthew 5:46-48)
We are called to be kind to everyone, even when we don’t feel like it!
In June, after trekking 30 miles raising money for studentlinkup, I had enormous blisters and very painful feet. The evening after the trek I went straight to a gig in Sheffield where I had to stand all night. I needed somewhere to stay and a friend put me up. They were so kind in giving me a bed, breakfast and directions to the arena.
They also went out of their way to buy me some much needed Blistex plasters. This was such a kind act that was so practical and helpful.
‘You’re so kind’ can seem like a trivial compliment. But kindness is not something we regret. It can change someone’s day.
Proverbs 11:17 ‘Your own soul is nourished when you are kind’
What a fantastic compliment to strive for and be known as the student who is kind.
