A few years ago I watched the London fireworks. Not on tv, not from a distance and certainly not from a warm house overlooking London.
I watched them up close and personal. I was stood directly opposite the London eye for 5 hours in the absolute freezing cold waiting for midnight.
When midnight came the atmosphere was electric and the fireworks were insane. It was an experience I’ll never forget. It’s hard to describe what it’s like apart from that it it’s like being in something rather than simply just watching it. It felt like you were in an explosion of colour and everything around you goes quite. Busy London was silent, everyone around you facing in one direction experiencing the same thing for a long ten minutes. Goose bumps, freezing cold fingers, and an aching neck but it was all worth it for those incredible ten minutes.
This memory came back to me this new years eve as I was sat in a warm house, on a comfy sofa watching the fireworks on tv.
It was comfortable and nice, but it wasn’t that incredible jaw dropping kind of experience.
It made me think about 2015 and my journey with God.
I want to be up close and personal with Jesus. I want to be experience the amazing things which give me goose bumps and make my jaw drop. Yes it may be easier to be comfortable, and warm, and sat down…. But it sounds a bit boring to me.
It may be a bit more scary, it may not be as comfortable, I may have to be challenged and stretched but if it means walking in what God has for me, then bring it on!
‘I have come that they may have life, and life to the full’ John 10:10
How are you going to live your 2015? Sat on the sofa in the warm watching from a distance, or living an exciting journey with God, up-close and personal?
Ask God to challenge you on something this year, you may be surprised what comes your way.
