"Do you have a faith goal?”
I am so grateful to the person who first asked me that question.
I’ve always been a goal oriented person. I am motivated by long term dreams and prioritise my life around them. The thing is, those goals are generally centred around what I can accomplish. Commitment. Focus. Hard work. Give me a vision and the activist in me takes over.
But the faith goal question doesn’t fit into my boxes. By definition, it needs to be something which requires faith. Something that I can’t do on my own. Something which won’t happen unless God steps in. On the other hand, it has to be something which I do have faith for, something which I can ask God to do with confidence. I find that I am usually just a bit too cautious, struggling to set something as a goal which challenges me to trust God.
In order to push me into making an actual faith goal, I often ask myself, “Is the goal too big for me?” After all, I am asking it of a God “who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20)
So how about you? Do you have a faith goal?
