What’s going on in your heart today? Have there been any glimpses of light, moments of peace? Or did it all rush past you in a bit of a blur? Have you seen heaven break through today?

Maybe we need to dig a little deeper… 

We hear over and over that ‘life is for having fun’, ‘you only live once’ and that we'll regret the things we didn’t do far more than the things we did; life is for living, we can sleep when we're dead. And it's true that life is full of many, many good things. It is as full of people and tasks and accomplishments and goals and treats as we care to fill it with. But then with all these good things - fun things - why does it so often feel like it's all just passing us by? Surely this isn't ALL there is?

Just this week, after a long time of cracking on and keeping on keeping on, filling my days with endless fun adventures, productive things and not a lot of sleep, I wind up sat on my bed – finally with a couple minutes to myself – exhausted, and empty. Surely this isn’t ALL there is?!

Maybe I need to dig a little deeper…

And then I hear that still, quiet voice. ‘It’s you and me’. And I breathe; deeper than I have in a long time.

‘It’s you and me’. There it goes again. And again I breathe; deeper still. I can’t help it, I need these words, I need to breathe them in.

All that time, in all the fun of life and the pressure of doing more and the whirlwind of busyness and of people, I was not on my own.

Jesus was with me. It was me and Him. My Father, my God, my friend; of course He was. Of course this is what I was missing. Of course this is why, when I sit down long enough to catch my breath and to listen to the silence, I feel not just tired but... empty.

But He is here. He was here all along.

It is Him and me.

Maybe it is time we stopped to breathe. He is calling us deeper, to live each moment with Him. 

It is Him and you.

Everything starts here. Invite Him to study with you today, invite Him to the pub garden, invite Him to your sports social and into house as you go home, into your evening as you switch off. Let's not forget this again! It is Him and you.

God is always calling us to dig a little deeper…

Each activity, each conversation and each moment that passes we can dig deeper into His unimaginable purposes, His endless love, His perfect design, His limitless power. It is what He has made us for.

If we can just remember to breathe Him in, and in that breath invite Him deeper, and deeper still. In this prayer Jesus prays for us in John 17 He reveals His deepest longing for us…

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world."

He longs for you to be with Him where He is.

This is what the whole whirlwind of life is all about. And breathe. 

So I dare you - dig a little deeper into Him today. He is limitless and He has loved you since before the creation of the world.

Today is about Him.

It is you and Him.
