A prayer for unity…

Unsure as our future may be, I am encouraged as I pray for our country and for Europe, that I am not alone...

I see a young generation with passion, a generation who want to see the world change for the better, who want to play their part in that change.

I see a generation who love Europe, who appreciate the diversity held within all of our neighbouring countries, whose ambition and aspiration reaches far beyond the borders of the UK.

I see a generation who have compassion on those in need, who believe in equality for all those around them, who seek unity and to be part of something bigger than themselves.

I see a young generation well-equipped to deal with the turbulent and unexpected change of our new independence and new identity.

I see a generation who are not powerless to change their circumstances, however reluctantly they might accept them; a generation of leaders, justice-seekers and world-changers.

However we receive the news of lastThursday, let us be united in fighting for the good of our country and of Europe.

May we find a fresh identity and purpose in seeking to appreciate, serve and bless our neighbouring countries, whether or not we have a shared identity.

May we be united; a bridge between the nations, a refuge for the those who need it and a beacon of hope to the church worldwide.

May we be keepers of peace, lovers of diversity and a resourcing nation to those in need.

May we be a strong nation, that we might make others strong.

May the favour and revival we are seeing in the UK increase in this time of adjustment, turmoil and reimagining our future.

May we develop a new appreciation for the diverse and beautiful continent of Europe which we have for so long taken for granted.

‘This is why it is said:

“wake up sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.’ [Eph 5:14-17]

Let us wake up, and join together in prayer for our future and the future of Europe.
