Lord, I have heard of your fame;
I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
In our time make them known. [Habakkuk 3]
When the angel opens the seventh seal - the prayers of God’s people - there is silence in heaven…
Jesus implores us to pray with faith, ‘Will not God do justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly.’
It is as if the ear of God is pressed up against the door of heaven, intent to hear what we have to say. It is as if the hand of the All-Powerful wants to partner with us, ready to act on what we want to see.
So I say, Lord, I stand in awe of your deeds. Repeat them in our day.
Your miracles, the way you’ve revealed yourself, your visions and dreams and the way you’ve empowered your people to change nations. Repeat them in our day.
We wanna see a generation of freshers who do not turn up to campus trembling, but who make the campus tremble because they so carry the presence of God in them. We wanna see a generation of freshers who make holiness the new normal and happiness no longer an idol. Repeat them in our day.
We wanna see a generation of freshers who are unafraid of the dark places, for they know the light in them overcomes all darkness. We wanna see campus culture change as You raise up leaders for every sphere of uni life. Repeat them in our day.
We wanna see a generation of freshers who find their place in the Kingdom as they move onto campus. We wanna see a freshers week which is a joyful new start; a time where students are built up and free to be themselves. Repeat them in our day.
We wanna see a generation of freshers who are so unbelievably welcomed by the church, they can’t help but want to know what it’s all about. We wanna see the church as the centre of the action – the greatest party-throwers, the joy-bringers and culture-setters who have every reason to celebrate. Repeat them in our day.
We wanna see depression break down and anxiety flee as these new freshers encounter the love of Jesus they were made for. We wanna see more freshers reunited with their Father God this year than ever before. Repeat them in our day.
University is the place you thrive. It is the place you get a chance to know Jesus and be reunited with your Father. Uni is the place you get to grow in your gifts and learn to lead. Uni is the place where you are made whole, tooled up and sent out to go change the world.
Lord, I stand in awe of your deeds. Repeat them in our day.
Let’s say a #freshersprayer together. Because prayer changes things. Because we know the ear of the Almighty is pressed up against the door of heaven and His hand is ready to act. Because we know Father God is on the move on our campus’ and He’s looking for us to join in with Him.
We’ll be praying for our freshers on campus’ and in churches all over the country on Sunday 11th September. Keep an eye on #freshersprayer and join in!!
