“Don’t worry, it’s all a totally natural part of what it means to follow Jesus”

As a student mission movement, rooted in the local church, we are sensing God calling us further.

For a while now we have heard loud and clear the call to holiness.

As we pray for the kingdom of God to come in the student world as it is in heaven, we cannot ignore that we are the vehicles through which God has chosen to make Himself known. We are the invitation to our generation to know the living God. This is why holiness is so important. God is calling us as a generation to adjust our lives to host the presence of God; that we would be marked out by His presence and contagious in the way we carry it.

From there the call to unity began sounding out.

We were created out of unity, the God of three-in-one. Whilst the Son of God remained in this communion when He was on earth, even he didn’t work alone. He surrounded himself with a team that acted far more like a family, and he left a legacy of a movement which united people across nations, religious views, people groups, sexes, economic classes, and even their legal-standing in a way that had never been done before. The mission of God started with family, and was always meant to be carried out in family. Not to mention how we need each-other - we need all the people we can get if we are honestly going to make an impact in the student world and the future of our nations! God is calling us to join hands in this mission; across all movements, opinions, nations and backgrounds.

Now all we’re hearing is fire.

The next big step for us as a movement will involve the fire of the Holy Spirit of God in a whole new way. God is inviting us to be revolutionaries and rebels, marked by fire and marked out for it. This goes a stage beyond being known by the presence of God we carry and seeing it affect those around us, we need to be ready for the Spirit of God to break out, to be poured out. We believe that healings, prophecy, salvation and even deliverance and inner healing will become normal as we go about our daily lives - because the Spirit of God wants to pour himself out in new and powerful ways that we haven’t yet seen.

This is how Joel described it in his prophesy about these times...

“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days. I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.”
‭‭[Joel‬ ‭2:28-32‬ ]

I am praying for us as a church that the Holy Spirit would run wild among us - that we would equip ourselves for that and give him space for it. We need to recapture some of the wildness of the Spirit - to understand in a new way what He is capable of and what it means to live a life of adventure with Him.

Don’t worry, it’s not big and supernatural and scary. It’s all a totally natural part of what it means to follow Jesus. All of this happens simply as we devote ourselves to God, and as we are united together. We prepare ourselves through fasting and prayer, and get equipped to see more of God at work each day.

How can you join in with this?

Can you spend time fasting and praying over summer and asking a God to show you more of what is possible with Him?

If in doubt, get yourself to our Firebrands Conference to get equipped and start dreaming for the year ahead.
